Manuel J. Vizcarra (1924 – 2003) was the eighth Bishop President of the Apostolic Assembly. Born in Juarez, México June 19, 1924 he was serious and formal from his youth. He was baptized in 1945 at the First Church of San José, California. On December 6, 1953 he married sister Martha Araujo. Seeking to better prepare himself he studied at the “Iglesia Apostólica’s” ITAI (Instituto Teológico Apostólico Internacional) until his return to Northern California. He was elected Bishop Supervisor of this district in 1967. He is the most recent hymn writer to serve as Bishop President, composing “No Sueltes las Manceras.”
Honesty & Faithfulness
Bishop Vizcarra’s leadership first came to light here in Northern California. He would later be elected Secretary of Christian Education, General Secretary and Bishop Vice President. He was elected Bishop President in 1986. The Vizcarra presidency saw the purchase of our current Headquarters, the Plan of Action, the strengthening of the Assembly’s finances, and the establishment of the A.C. Nava Foundation. He was the first Bishop President of the Apostolic Assembly in Mexico and would return to be Pastor in the church he was baptized until April 7, 2003 when he was called into the Lord’s presence.
